[Security Issue] Flash-Aid 1.0.18 released!

All 64bit users that use Flash-Aid to install the 64bit square preview should update to Flash-Aid 1.0.18 as soon as possible. After installing it and restarting Firefox, the extension will ask for a flash update, which you should agree. If that doesn't happen for some reason, you should reinstall flash from the extension menu. The reason for that is a security issue.

FLASH-AID 1.0.13 was released today and is available for download through the Other Downloads section. It will be available in the Stable Channel as soon it gets reviewed by Mozilla editors.

This version only removes the extension menu icon from the statusbar, due to upcoming changes in Firefox 4, in which the statusbar will be replaced by a new addons bar. So from now on, the extension will only be accessible from the navigation toolbar.

Users that prefer to access FLASH-AID from the bottom of the browser will be allowed to move it to the new addons bar in Firefox 4.

This version just fixed a minor issue introduced by version 1.0.7, that prevents the automated installer from pop up on new installations of the extension. The flash installation feature still can be performed on version 1.0.7 through the status bar launcher or the toolbar launcher.

FLASH-AID 1.0.5 was released today and is available for download through the Stable Channel. It will be available at Mozilla site as soon it gets reviewed by Mozilla editors. It is also available through the Beta channel as 1.0.5rc, but it is identical to the final version. Beta Channel users can update through Firefox Add-on manager now.

This version brings the new flash 10.1 and removes the support for 64bit version installation, due to the fact that Adobe is no longer releasing flash for 64bit and all available versions have a critical vulnerability. Nevertheless, 64bit users will be able to install the 32bit version, which uses nspluginwrapper.

You should update the extension and install the new flash version as soon as possible.

Flash 10.0.45.2 critical vulnerability

A critical vulnerability has been identified a couple of days ago and Adobe is recommending the upgrade to version 10.1. Nevertheless, this version is not available in Ubuntu repositories yet and will not be available for 64bit users.

I will release a new version of FLASH-AID as soon as Ubuntu updates the repositories and will remove support for flash 64bit entirely. Unfortunately, the 64bit version is no longer being supported by Adobe.

FLASH-AID 1.0.4 released!

Version 1.0.4 of the extension has been released and brings the following changes:

fixed toolbar button
added missing symlink on 32bit installs
added visual confirmation before running the install script
install script is now non-interactive
added option to install flash 32bit 10.1rc7

Automatic updates through Firefox add-ons manager will be offered when Mozilla approves it, which should take about a week. Nevertheless, this version can be downloaded and installed directly from the Stable Channel on the left.

Beta Channel users will be offered to upgrade automatically to version 1.0.4rc, which is the final version.

It seems the current version of Swiftfox has a bug that prevents it from detecting plugins. It doesn't recognize any newly installed plugins. If you start Firefox using the same user profile, then close Firefox and start Swiftfox it does recognize the plugins, but they don't work. I would recommend switching to the default Firefox for now.

I had to release version 1.0.1 to fix a bug that occurs if you install the 32bit version on a 64bit machine. If you have a 32bit version and flash doesn't install properly, grab the new version too.

FLASH-AID 1.0.0 released!

The first version of FLASH-AID has been released today and is available for download through the Development Channel.

Since the extension is under development, it won't be approved immediately by Mozilla editors. It takes about 3 weeks to be reviewed. This means, until the extensions is approved, it won't update automatically by Firefox add-on manager. So I strongly recommend that you subscribe to the extension RSS feed or Twitter, in order to receive news about updates. Due to the nature of this extension, it will be constantly updated to include new Flash 64 bit versions.
